What are we often asked?
Version 1 of the Origami Bottle is made of a premium plant-based polymer (sustainably sourced rapeseed), produced by Envalior, a Dutch Company formerly known as DSM.
This polymer is food-safe, BPA/BPS-free, and does not contain any lead or toxins that can leach even when filled with hot water.
Bio-based: the material is made from sustainably sourced rapeseed, with 43% bio-based and 57% petrol-based. The bio component is expected to increase in the future.
*Every colour is food-certified, and the product is FDA-approved and EU 1935/2004 compliant.
Neck and cap: made of stainless steel.
Gaskets: made of food-grade silicone.
The Origami Bottle can withstand thousands of folds and up to 4 years of usage when used properly.
To maximise its lifespan, we recommend:
- folding it as shown in the instructions
- washing it weekly (*preferably with a bottle brush) and letting it air dry compeletely
- handling it with care, including avoiding drops
Warranty: We offer a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects. Defects, if any, typically appear within the first months of use, and we are committed to resolving them promptly.
The folding creases are on the outside, while the inside surface is smooth and glossy for easier cleaning — that’s why we recommend using a bottle brush for best results.
- Always air dry thoroughly before folding or storing.
Before First Use: For more sensitive people, the bottle might have a stronger initial odor that fades with washing and usage. We recommend giving it several soapy hot washes and letting it air dry fully between uses. For faster results, soak it in hot, soapy water and leave it overnight.
Weekly cleaning: Clean it with a bottle brush for best results; avoid leaving water inside for long periods. Always air dry completely before folding or storing.
Dishwasher-safe: Top rack only, gentle cycle (max 65°C / 149°F), fragrance-free detergent. Remove and clean the silicone gasket and outer ring separately.
All parts, including the internal silicone gasket in the cap and the outer silicone ring, can be removed and cleaned individually.
- The Bottle is designed for still water only. We don’t recommend using it for other drinks.
- DO NOT use the bottle with carbonated water. Carbonation creates high pressure, which inflates the bottle and can potentially burst it.
- Hot water: The Origami Bottle is safe for hot water, and there is no chemical leaching. If you use it for hot water we recommend that you do not touch the hot surface to avoid burns. Use the cap ring instead.
