What are we often asked?
The Origami Bottle V2 keeps the same size, shape, folding design, and functionality as V1, so it will look and feel the same in your hand. Both versions are BPA/BPS-free, food-safe, and recyclable.
The key difference is the material.
V2 is made from a premium thermoplastic polymer blend developed by Kraiburg TPE, a leading German company. It's chosen for high durability and better resistance in the folding areas — especially for heavy daily use. V1 is made from a bio-based rapeseed polymer from Envalior (ex-DSM) in the Netherlands.
Key improvements (V2 vs V1):
- Stronger fold zones: V2’s material is stronger and more resilient in the thinner folding areas, making it more suitable for heavy, everyday use.
- More drop-resistant: V2 is more resistant to drops compared to V1.
- Updated neck: V2 features a thicker rigid plastic neck (polypropylene) replacing V1’s stainless steel neck. This reduces friction with the cap for a smoother closing, and some people prefer the feel of the rigid plastic when drinking.
The Origami Bottle can withstand thousands of folds and years of use when used properly. We don’t state an exact lifespan because it depends on external factors such as sun/UV exposure, washing routine, and handling.
To maximise its lifespan, we recommend:
- Fold it only as shown in the Instruction Manual and the FAQ section.
- Wash it regularly (ideally weekly), preferably using a bottle brush
- Handle with care and avoid drops
Warranty: We offer a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects. Defects, if any, typically appear within the first months of use, and we are committed to resolving them promptly.
There are two versions of the Origami Bottle, each made with different materials.
Version 2 is made from a premium thermoplastic polymer (TPS, PP/SEBS) developed by a German materials company (Kraiburg TPE). It is BPA/BPS, phthalates, and heavy metal-free. We chose it for its higher rigidity, strength, and long-term folding durability. Version 2 also features a thick, durable polypropylene (PP) neck, replacing the metal neck used in Version 1.
The folding creases are on the outside, while the inside surface is smooth and glossy for easier cleaning. The bottle is dishwasher-safe, but for best results, we recommend cleaning with a bottle brush.
- Always air dry thoroughly before folding or storing.
Before first use: More sensitive people may have a stronger initial odour that fades with washing and use. We recommend giving it several soapy hot washes and letting it air dry fully between uses. For faster results, soak it in hot, soapy water and leave it overnight.
Weekly cleaning: Use a bottle brush for best results; avoid leaving water inside for long periods. Always air dry completely before folding or storing.
Dishwasher-safe: Top rack only, gentle cycle (max 65°C / 149°F), fragrance-free detergent. The internal silicone gasket in the lid is removable and can be cleaned separately.
- The Bottle is designed for still water only. We don’t recommend using it for other drinks.
- DO NOT use the bottle with carbonated water. Carbonation creates high pressure, which inflates the bottle and can potentially burst it.
- Hot water: The Origami Bottle is safe for hot water, and there is no chemical leaching. If you use it for hot water, we recommend that you do not touch the hot surface to avoid burns. Use the cap ring instead.
Yes, it is recyclable in the following way:
- Bottle body + plastic neck: You can recycle them together with #5 PP (polypropylene) plastics. The bottle body material is certified for PP recycling by CYCLOS-HTP Institute in Germany. (Link to Certificate — look for TF#CMB-a_x.)
- HDPE sorting: The main material is also certified for #2 HDPE sorting. (Link to Certificate)
- Lid: The stainless-steel lid is highly recyclable (metal recycling where available).
- Gasket: The silicone gasket should be disposed of as general waste.
Notes: Recycling rules can vary by country/collector. If your local system doesn’t accept mixed plastics or small parts, follow local guidance.

Why choose the Origami Bottle?
We believe a foldable bottle should pack small and feel sturdy in your hand — so we created the Origami Bottle to deliver both.
Rigid & Stable
Forget soft, flimsy silicone alternatives. Our bottle feels solid in your hand — and unlike silicone, it's designed to be recycled.
The folding pattern has a utility and design patent. Beware of cheap silicone knock-offs with unknown origin.
It's not meant to be squished. See where to press to fold it right.
